Information Technology – Web Development Track
The Information Technology – Web Development track at GTCC is designed for students who wish to start a career as a web developer. This degree focuses on how to make effective websites utilizing current industry standards. In addition to the development of websites, you will learn the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Internet Marketing strategies, and Social Media as a marketing tool. You will also learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and other languages in an effort to develop websites that are optimized for all devices and browser types. In addition to the AAS degree in Web Development, upon completion of this degree, students will earn these three certificates from GTCC: Computer Technology Integration, Web Development, and Internet Marketing & Social Media.

The Web Development track prepares graduates for careers in the information technology arena using computers and distributed computing to disseminate and collect information via the web. Course work in this program covers the terminology and use of computers to build, manage, maintain, and deploy an online presence in today's multifaceted Internet. Topics covered within this track include Content Management Systems, Social Media, Internet Marketing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Mobile Device Development, Web Servers, Security, Databases, Programming Languages, as well as Site Development and Design. Studies will provide opportunity for students to learn related industry standards.
Graduates should qualify for career opportunities as web designers, administrators, or developers in the areas of web applications, websites, web services, mobile integration, social media managers, and Internet marketing and analytics professionals.
Upon successful completion of the Information Technology, Web Development track, graduates should be able to:
- Analyze the web content client requirements to construct a corresponding planning document.
- Identify inefficiencies in an existing website and incorporate enhancements to appearance, coding, and overall functionality into a new website.
- Create web content that satisfies requirements using all phases of the Web Development Process.
- Develop a website that incorporates static and dynamic content utilizing current industry standard software and techniques, including integration with a relational database.
- Create web content that meets current industry standards.
- Apply core information technology skills appropriate to computer science.

The Computer Technology Integration Certificate is designed to prepare graduates for employment with organizations that use computers to process, manage, and communicate information. No. All software needed to complete this degree are free to students. You will learn to use several professional computer software applications during the completion of this degree. These are the standard used in the industry.
You will need a PC running the Windows operating system. An Apple brand computer running the MacOS operating system may not support some the software you are required to use. If using a Mac, please ensure you can dual boot to Windows or use a virtualization application (such as Virtual Box, VMware, Parallels, etc.) for Windows applications.
