Students will experience the fun, fast-paced environment of restaurant kitchens and food trucks in Culinary Quest: A Cooking Adventure.

Guilford Technical Community College is offering several summer camps for teens (ages 13-18), providing a snapshot of possible career paths.

With two weeks of sessions to choose from, GTCC summer camps will run June 16-20 and June 23-27. These camps include options like digital arts, robotics, entrepreneurship, health science, and more. The goal of each session is to provide fun, hands-on experiences allowing teens to explore potential careers using the latest technology.

All sessions offer a low faculty-to-participant ratio with immersive curriculum and new daily activities.. All but one camp option will take place on GTCC’s Jamestown campus with the college’s faculty serving as instructors for each session.

Each week-long camp session runs from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. with a cost of $75 for most sessions and $100 for the visual art sessions, which covers supplies. Lunch and a t-shirt are included with all sessions.

Below is a brief description of each session:

  • Art Exploration: Visual Art (June 16 20) – An introduction to art mediums such as: ceramics, painting, cyanotype, collage, paper quilting, weaving, spray paint, and more. Students will create several artworks, learning to visually communicate while exploring hands-on with different media.
  • Artistry of Mask Making and Wearable Art: Visual Art (June 23 27) – Campers will create large, wearable masks with cardstock, reeds, and paper mâché. Learn details such as intricately sculpted designs from different materials.
  • Beauty Boldness: Cosmetology (June 16 20 and June 23 – 27) – Students will learn how to properly care for hair, skin, and nails. Experienced and licensed cosmetologists will offer hands-on experiences with mannequins, cosmetology arts and craft activities, team building exercises, and much more.
  • Becoming a Data Analyst: Computer Science (June 16 20) – Learn all the aspects of databases, from data collection surveys, forms, and analysis to storage, security, reporting, and even AI. And at the end of camp, participants will earn their Google Analytics Certification.
  • Clay Creations: Visual Arts (June 23 – 27) – Explore form, function, and expression using clay. Learn about hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, as well as surface design and conceptual development. Lessons will include both functional and sculptural objects.
  • Culinary Quest: A Cooking Adventure: Culinary (June 16 20) Students will experience the fun, fast-paced environment of restaurant kitchens and food trucks. GTCC’s award-winning faculty will teach the fundamentals of cooking, baking, and various techniques to whip up delicious creations with flair.
  • Cyber Sleuths, Investigate the Digital Frontier: Computer Technologies (June 16 20 and June 23 – 27) – Check out GTCC's cyber program and its Centers for Academic Excellence status and new Cyber Security Center. Lessons will include imaging hard drives and USB drives, using forensic tools, examining mobile phones and imaging, and discussing ethical hacking and open-source intelligence tools.
  • First Responder Days: Public Safety (June 16 - June 20) – This session explores the roles of first responders, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians. Find out about their training, what their jobs entail and what the training looks like.
  • Fostering Creative Young Minds: Early Childhood Education (June 16 – 20 and June 23 – 27) Offered both weeks, these sessions discover creative activities to use when working with young children. Learn safety practices and how to design age-appropriate experiences. Plus, gain insights into the role and mindset of early childhood educators.
  • Graphic Design and Illustration: Advertising and Graphic Design (June 16 20 and June 23 – 27) – Learn about the design process from sketching to software, printing to promotion for logos, T-shirt graphics, phone apps, concert posters, team mascots, game characters, and more.
  • Iron Man's Fab Lab: Welding (June 16 20 and June 23 – 27) – Campers will explore the world of welding using electrical plasma. Learn basic safety protocols, MIG welding, and robotic welding programming fundamentals while creating a steel project.
  • Metal Machines Mania: Computer Integrative Machining (June 16 – 20) – Campers can unleash their creativity while mastering essential safety protocols and best practices for manual and Computer Integrated Machining. They will dive into the machining world and learn how to transform project ideas into reality.
  • Money Making Mindset: Entrepreneurs (June 16 20 and June 23 – 27) – Aspiring entrepreneurs can develop a success-driven mindset and get hands-on experience in business creation at Entrepreneurship Camp. Teens will brainstorm innovative ideas, create business plans, develop mini pitch decks, and refine their pitching skills.
  • Social Media Pro, Be a True Influencer: Social Media/Computer Science (June 23 – 27) – People spend hours a day on social media. Learn how to be a good content creator and manager, use video, create imagery, craft wording, use AI, and monitor analytics.
  • The Scrub Life: Health Sciences (June 16 - 20) Explore health sciences to find out if you might be interested in becoming a nurse, medical assistant, hospital technician, or other healthcare professional. Find out what makes these jobs challenging.
  • Unlock the Power of Robotics: Mechatronics (June 16 20 and June 23 – 27) – Dive into the world of industrial robotics, discovering how cutting-edge machines are revolutionizing manufacturing. Campers will get hands-on experience with industrial robots, learning to maneuver them using tech pendants and even programming them to complete tasks. Note: Located on Greensboro campus.
