At 52, Joanne Martin is considered a post-traditional student. But that's not stopping her from fully living the college student experience.

GTCC has a ton of ways to engage students outside the classroom. There are weekly Titan events, student clubs and organizations, movie nights, photo booths, welcome weeks, and the list goes on.

That's why the Inside Higher Ed organization featured a GTCC student in a recent study about what keeps students from participating in extracurricular activities.

GTCC student Joanne Martin, 52, has a full plate of responsibilities outside of school. But this nursing student didn't want to miss out on the extracurricular activities that are available at GTCC.

“Because of my age, I know about managing time, what’s important,” she explains. “You have to make sacrifices. I just buckled down."

Martin also said that being involved will best position her for scholarships to continue her nursing studies after community college.
