This program helps students succeed by offering support in several ways, including:

49erNext students can also use the services and benefits offered by UNC Charlotte while they're still attending GTCC. Some of the benefits include career services, athletics tickets, access to the library, and more.

As a 49erNext student, you are guaranteed admission to UNC Charlotte if you complete an eligible associate degree with the required GPA.

To be eligible for 49erNext interested students must:

  • Attend a community college that participates in the 49erNext program
  • Have earned a high school diploma, or equivalent
  • Be pursuing an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Engineering, Associate in Fine Arts*, Associate in Arts – Teacher Prep, or Associate in Science – Teacher Prep
  • Have earned 15 or fewer credit hours at the community college where they intend to enroll in the program, with no prior transfer credits
  • Intend to pursue a major offered at UNC Charlotte, with the exception of architecture, fine or performing arts, graphic design, and nursing

NOTE: *UNC Charlotte recognizes these degrees as transferable associate degrees and will award a general education waiver. Please consult your community college academic advisor to determine the best associate degree fit for the most streamlined path to Charlotte.

Students will stay enrolled within 49erNext until they complete their associate degrees at GTCC.

Students can become ineligible and removed from the program if:

  • their cumulative GPA is below 2.0 after two semesters
  • they have to re-enroll for any reason at the community college
  • they’re not making progress in their approved associate degrees

  • Getting ready for your career: Learn about creating a career guide, resume, Linkedin, and networking pitch.
  • Career competencies: You can learn how to demonstrate what you have learned about your major above and beyond what was taught in the classroom.
  • Career communities: Based on your major, you can learn from career coaches, networking events, and panels to continue building your competency.

49er ID

With a 49er ID, students have access to:

  • free tickets to athletics events, including football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer
  • access to the UNC Charlotte J. Murrey Atkins Library and its resources
  • discounts on university recreation, including workout classes, personal training, and more
  • discounts on transportation and parking at the university

Once you have submitted your admissions application, you can access the UNC Charlotte scholarship portal to apply for scholarships.
