Handcrafted Card Making

This course is an introduction to handcrafted card making. You will learn techniques to design unique handcrafted cards. Build a sense of creativity and take home a beautiful card.

Basketry

This course teaches basic-to-advanced level basketry techniques and terms and includes dyeing and weaving with reed. Weaving with painted paper is also available. If you are a first-time student, you will start with a reed basket. You may complete two to three baskets in one session. Please bring a basin, spray bottle, small screwdriver, measuring tape, pencil, towel, and heavy-duty scissors to class.

Oil Painting

This course teaches the fundamentals of traditional oil painting techniques. The course features the genre of still life painting, drawing basics when working from life, and time-honored methods and materials unique to oil painting. The course includes instructor demonstrations and one-on-one time.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

In this course, you will learn and practice the five basic skills of drawing in a fun, effective way with inspiration from Betty Edwards’ best-selling book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.

Bring a 9-inch-by-12-inch drawing pad and No. 2 pencils with erasers to the first class.

 Portrait Drawing

This course will teach students the building blocks of good portrait drawing in a fun, effective way. Students will take their drawing to the next level with a greater understanding of the basic construction of the head, planes of the head, facial features, and their placement, as well as the keys to achieving a likeness. The class is informative, stress-free, and suitable for beginning to advanced artists. Includes instructor demonstrations and one-on-one time.

Bring an 11-by-14-inch inch drawing pad, an assortment of drawing pencils (HB, 2B, 4B), and kneaded erasers to the first class.

Learn to Sew Using Your Own Sewing Machine

This new course is designed for students who want to learn how to sew and operate their own sewing machine. Students must have some basic sewing knowledge and will be taught based on individual skills. Please have in mind a project you would like to complete. You will be responsible for your own machine (being in good working order), and the college will not be liable for loss, theft, or damage to any personal property brought on campus. Please bring your sewing machine manual. Students must sign a waiver of liability on the first day of class.

 Quilt Block-Intermediate

Build on your basic quilting skills in this intermediate quilt block class. Designed for quilters comfortable with rotary cutting, piecing, and sewing a consistent 1/4-ich seam, this hands-on class explores more intricate block designs and precision piecing techniques. You'll improve accuracy, learn helpful contruction tips, and complete one or more beautiful quilt blocks while gaining the confidence to talke more advance quilting projects.

Beginning Sewing

Beginning Sewing introduces  students to the fundamentals of garment construction, including fabric and pattern slection, meaasuring, cutting, marking, and basic sewing techniques. Students will learn essential construction skills such as seams and seam finishes, darts, sleeves, hems, pockets, and buttonhols while completing guided projects. Sewing makhines are provided by the college for classroom instruction; personal sewing machines are not permitted.

A supply list will be given on the first day of class.

Intermediate Sewing

Intermediate Sewing builds on foundational sewing skills and is designed for studentss who are comfortable operating a sewing machine and constructing basic garment. This course focuses on refining garment construction techniques, improving fit, and working with more advanced patterns and fabrics. Students will expand their skills through techniques such as zipper applications, collars, cuffs, facings, waistbands, sleeves, and garment finishing while completing intermediate-level projects. Sewing machines are provided by the college for classroom instruction; personal sewing machines are not permitted.

Sewing Fundamentals

This introductory course will focus on basic machine sewing (using your own sewing machine) and pattern drafting. Students will gain a thorough understanding of the necessary sewing tools, terminology, and practical sewing techniques. Additionally, students will learn troubleshooting, machine maintenance, fabric identification, measuring and pattern reading, and drafting on your own sewing machine. Week-to-week topics will include demonstrations, discussions, and practical sewing applications. These weekly techniques will progress to multiple completed craft projects throughout the course.

Watercolor for Beginners

This course will teach the elements and techniques of painting using watercolors. This fun, informative, stress-free class is designed for the beginner and leisure watercolorist. In each session, you will learn and practice watercolor techniques. You will have some guided lessons and individual time to work on your own. Come and discover the unique and beautiful qualities of watercolor in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Supplies And Materials- Not required, but recommended.

  • Watercolor Tube paint set (at least an 12-color set)
  • Watercolor paper pad (9x12 or 11 x 14)
  • Watercolor paint brush set (taklon watercolor brusshes are recommended)
  • Watercolor Paint palette
  • Pencils (2b, 3b, 4b, 6b)
  • Erasers (Kneaded eraser and white soft eraser)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Micron Pens (waterproof)
  • Paper towels
  • Cup for water
  • Watercolor Sketchbook (optional but highly recommended)

Art of Paper Collage and Mixed Media Art

In this beginner's course, you will explore how to create a work of art that focuses on realism and abstract images through paper collage and other mixed-media art. Skills will include learning how to use and handle paper collage techniques and about supporting materials for a collage, while incorporating other mixed media, such as paints, ink, graphite, and more. You will learn how to use patterns and textures to create an image/composition (either realistic or abstract).The course will include guided lessons as well as individual time to work.

The art of collage is about arranging, re-arranging, and layering your cut or torn images of paper. You will learn the basics of working the entire surface as you identify the shape, form, space, and placement of materials. By the end of the course, students will learn paper layering, assemblage, decorative collage, and acrylic paint collage. Students also will have the opportunity to learn techniques for fabric collage and color mixing paper, fabrics, and paint materials.
