Medical Billing and Coding Certificate

The Medical Office Administration – Medical Billing and Coding certificate prepares students to sit for the AAPC's Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) exam. This certificate program is designed specifically for students who have been working in healthcare for at least the past three years and as a result, are familiar with anatomy and physiology.

The Medical Office Administration-Medical Billing and Coding Certificate program is offered both in a traditional (in-person) and online format. Many students currently enrolled in the program work full-time jobs, and the online option gives them the needed flexibility to further their education while continuing to work.

The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) CPC® certification is the most-recognized medical coding certification in today’s healthcare industry, considered the “gold standard” for medical coding in the medical office setting. (www.aapc.com) Following successful completion of this degree, students are fully prepared to sit for this nationally recognized exam and become certified as a coder for the physician office setting.

GTCC is proud to hold a “Professional Medical Coding Curriculum” (PMCC) licensure through the AAPC which allows the college to use actual AAPC curriculum to prepare students for the exam. Students enrolled in our program are also offered significant discounts on membership and exam purchases through this licensure.

Yes. To learn the art of coding, students are required to buy the following coding manuals in addition to their standard textbooks: ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS. These books are shared across multiple courses and may also be used when taking the CPC® exam, should the student choose to do so.

Yes. Because this certificate is laid out as a part-time student plan, students should complete the courses as prescribed. Not following this plan will result in significant delays in completion. All the courses are only offered once per year in the semester listed in the layout provided.
