On March 14, 2025, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm GTCC campus police will be conducting active assailant training in and around the Service Careers building. Airsoft handguns which appear to be real firearms will be utilized. No real firearms will be used in this training exercise. This is only a training exercise. Students SHINE
Students SHINE is a program all about students showing off their hard work, skills, and talents. Once a year, the program hosts Student Presentation Day, which provides an opportunity to showcase excellence in academic, technical, and/or professional projects and contributions created by students, usually within their courses, with a focus on the involvement and support of faculty sponsors.

Requirements for applicationGuidelines
- Student work that is deemed outstanding by the faculty in an academic or technical field.
- Exemplary student work that has already been graded. Student Presentation Day is a chance to show off students’ work, not to grade or judge it.
- Clubs and/or club members are invited to submit applications as long as the presentation showcases an academic or technical accomplishment in a curriculum area and a faculty sponsor supports this accomplishment.
- Sponsoring faculty should be involved with the project described in the application.
Timeline
- March 15: Student submission deadline
- March 22: Students notified of acceptance
- March 29: Students confirm their plans to participate
- April 11: Students SHINE 2024 in Medlin 2701 area and conference rooms
Types of participation
- Presentation: Oral delivery of materials related to the project that can include visual aids/multimedia. (Presentations are in 15-minute blocks.)
- Exhibit: Display the project and be prepared to explain the content and answer audience questions.
- Demonstration: Show the process required to create the project.
- Videos: Recorded processes involving students producing/demonstrating outstanding work usually in the technical fields (30-minute time-slot – maybe 15-minute video then 15-minute Q&A or explanation).
