Am I required to attend?

To support our students and celebrate their successes, the College requires all full-time, exempt employees (those who do not complete time sheets) to participate in at least one commencement ceremony (Management Manual III-1.1.8 Curriculum Graduation

Please coordinate coverage within your service areas so that not all exempt employees attend the same ceremony, as the College will remain open during commencement. Sign up is required for the morning or afternoon ceremony and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Any full-time exempt staff who have not signed up or received approval for an excused absence will be assigned to a ceremony.

Excused Absences

Prior approval must be obtained from the president at least 14 calendar days before the event. To request an excuse, please email your supervisor detailing the reason for your absence. The supervisor will send the request through appropriate channels to the president.

What should I wear for the ceremony?

Volunteers assisting with the ceremonies are asked to wear black pants/skirt and a white collared shirt/blouse.

Attendees should dress appropriately for the occasion. Full-time regular staff members are expected to wear appropriately zipped academic regalia during the ceremony and processional/recessional, ensuring professional attire (no jeans or sandals) is worn underneath. Only appropriate mortarboards and tams should be worn.

What should I do about parking?

When you arrive at the Coliseum, tell the parking staff that you are attending GTCC’s graduation. A parking map and permit will be emailed prior to graduation. Please have the pass available by printing or available on your phone.

Faculty and staff will enter from Coliseum Boulevard.

What time should I arrive for graduation lineup?

Please arrive no later than 10 a.m. for the morning ceremony and 3 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony.

Please meet at the lower level of the North end of the coliseum.

  • Faculty and staff whose last names begin with letters A-M line up in the tunnel on the northwest side of the arena nearest The Coliseum Box Office.
  • Faculty and staff whose names begin with letters N-Z line up outside the northeast corner of the lower arena on the side nearest The Terrace.
