Caps and Gowns

Caps, gowns, and other commencement apparel can be ordered through the GTCC shop at Oak Hall. 

You may choose to pickup in-store for free at Graduation Fair at the Jamestown location or select the ship to home option for a small fee. If you elect to pickup at grad fair, please have your Student I.D. with when you come to grad fair. There is no charge for your regalia set, but there are additional items like stoles, invitations and extra tassels offered online for an added fee.

Graduates will wear their caps in the academic procession and throughout the ceremony.

Announcements, Class Rings, and Diploma Frames

Graduation items available at the GTCC bookstore include invitations, mortar boards, tassels, rings, and stoles.

Our graduation partner vendors, Balfour and Oak Hall, offer announcements, class rings, and diploma frames in store or online.

These items are also available at the Jamestown Campus Store year-round.

Basic Dress

It is recommended that you avoid wearing brightly colored clothing, shoes, earrings, or other costume jewelry. Women should wear a simple white or dark dress or dress slacks (no jeans, please) and dark shoes with low or medium heels. Men should wear dark pants (no jeans, please) and dark shoes. If your gown is wrinkled, either hang it in a place where steam is generated (e.g., a shower stall) or press it with an iron on a lukewarm setting.

Tassels

Students move their heads as their tassels swing during the graduation ceremony.

Graduates are to wear their tassels on the right front side before degrees are conferred. Graduates will reposition their tassels to the left side in unison on cue from the school's president after degrees are conferred.

Gold honors tassels

Gold tassels are provided to diploma and degree graduates who have achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher program average to designate their academic achievement.

Staff at the graduation check-in tables will have a list of graduates who are eligible for a gold tassel during lineup time and will distribute them in exchange for the green ones.

Cords and Stoles

Honor cords serve as visual symbols of academic achievement, excellence, and recognition. These cords are typically worn around the neck and shoulders, draped over the graduation gown.

Honor cords are not worn by the entire graduating class but only by the honor students or those receiving honorary academic achievements or participating in specific groups or societies.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Phi Theta Kappa is the honor society for two-year colleges which promotes scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. 

Members of GTCC Phi Theta Kappa can wear PTK Stoles at commencement. Members can purchase them at the GTCC Jamestown Campus Library or online at the PTK website.
