Before each year of college, you can apply for federal grants, work-study, and loans with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form (GTCC's school code is 004838). GTCC uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility. Be sure to check your Titan Live email account in case GTCC needs you to turn in documents before we can complete your financial aid award.

FAFSA Help

Members of GTCC's Financial Aid staff can help guide current and prospective students and their families through completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Completing the FAFSA is the first step toward receiving state and federal aid for college. By not filling out the FAFSA, students could be missing out on scholarships and grants.

Students should bring the following information with them:

  • Each student and one parent should apply for a FSA ID at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Consider making your FSA ID in advance so you can log in quickly to get help.
  • Each FAFSA filer should make sure to keep a record of the parent's and student's email addresses, their answers to the security questions, and both FSA IDs in a secure place. This information is needed to sign the FAFSA.

Financial Aid Award Information

Once you have applied for admission to GTCC, you can check Self-Service to see your financial aid award and make adjustments. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you have any questions regarding how to apply for financial aid.

Priority deadlines to complete the FAFSA and submit any supporting documentation each year:

  • Fall:  May 1
  • Spring:  Dec. 1
  • Summer: May 1

Note: These are only priority deadlines.  Applications for financial aid can be submitted anytime throughout the year and aid awarded if funding is available.

Before you accept your loans, carefully consider whether you need to borrow.  Examine your financial aid award letter closely.  In many cases, grants and scholarships are enough to completely pay your direct costs for tuition, fees, books, and supplies.  If you decide you need to borrow, remember that you can borrow LESS than the amount offered on your award letter.  You should borrow only what you need. Watch this short video before you take the next step.
