Need Money For College? Attend FAFSA Day at GTCC

Published on: October 23, 2017

JAMESTOWN, N.C.  — Need money for college? Guilford Technical Community College will host FAFSA Day on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. GTCC’s Office of Financial Aid will guide current and prospective students and their families through completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The event is free.

Completing the FAFSA is the first step toward receiving state and federal aid for college. By not filling out the FAFSA, students could be missing out on financial aid. Individuals planning to attend college in the 2018-19 academic year are encouraged to participate.

Students should bring the following information with them to the workshop. GTCC financial aid specialists will walk them through the FAFSA application line-by-line.

  • Each student and one parent should apply for a FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov. Make sure to keep a record of the parent’s and student’s email addresses, their answers to the security questions, and both FSA IDs in a secure place. This information is needed to sign the FAFSA.
  • Your 2016 tax information will be required. The new 2018-2019 FAFSA includes a ready-to-use IRS Data Retrieval Tool. Since 2016 taxes have already been filed, most students and families will be able to use the Data Retrieval Tool to access tax information.
