Before each year of college, you can apply for federal grants, work-study, and loans with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. GTCC uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility each year. Be sure to include our school code (004838) so that we can create your award letter as soon as possible. As a recipient of financial aid, you must pay attention to the application process, deadlines, and policy. We want you to get it, and keep it!

Our school code is 004838.

No. You do not have to be full-time to receive financial aid. However, your aid may be PRORATED as a result. Also, state grants and loans require a minimum of half-time (six or more credit hours) enrollment. You can learn more about proration in our Award Supplement on our Financial Aid Forms page.

To see how your aid is affected by less-than-full-time enrollment, log in to Self-Service and click on "Student Finance" to view your current semester charges and prorated aid amounts.

Students can pursue an adjustment to their Financial Aid eligibility based on special or unusual circumstances.

  • Special circumstances refer to financial situations (loss of a job, etc.) that justify an aid administrator adjusting data elements in the Cost of Attendance or the EFC/SAI calculation.
  • Unusual circumstances refer to the conditions that justify an aid administrator making an adjustment to a student’s dependency status based on a unique situation (e.g., human trafficking, refugee or asylee status, parental abuse or abandonment, incarceration), more commonly referred to as a dependency override.

Visit our forms page to select the correct form for your situation. Your completed form and documentation are reviewed and decisions are made on a case-by-case basis for all special and unusual circumstance requests. Students who do not provide all necessary documentation will experience a delay in the processing of their requests. Students with complete requests will be contacted via their school email account within 30 days after submission.
