JAMESTOWN, N.C. (Aug. 3, 2023) Sybil Newman, who has held several key positions at Guilford Technical Community College over the past 20 years, has been named GTCC's college advancement officer.

In her new role, Newman will provide leadership in developing individual and corporate donors to GTCC while re-engaging past donors, identifying new prospects, and developing relationships that lead to leadership level and major gifts.

"Sybil has been an asset to GTCC for over two decades, excelling at every post she has held along the way. With that track record and her diligence and ability to interact and engage with people, she is going to continue to shine as GTCC's college advancement officer," said Jan Knox., college advancement vice president of GTCC.

Most recently, Newman was interim director of the GTCC Foundation, which supports efforts to ensure educational excellence through fundraising, advocacy, and promoting awareness of GTCC's positive impact on the community. Prior to that, she was the director/coordinator of GTCC's Titan Link Center.

"I recall hearing a quote by former NFL player Ty Howard that speaks to how I feel about this new challenge and change with GTCC," Newman said. "He said, ‘to fear change is to fear being challenged. To fear being challenged it to fear growth and new possibilities.'

"This resonates with me and my new position as the college advancement officer. This new position captures so many aspects of who I am as an individual, personally and professionally, yet it will challenge me."

Also, Newman has served as director of the college's adult education and adult secondary education programs in High Point and as program director for the Center for Working Families.

Newman attended North Carolina A&T University, earning a Master of Science in leadership studies and adult education and a Bachelor of Arts in professional speech, theatre arts, and broadcast communication.
